Radiologic stewardship for pediatric intracranial infections: opportunities to reduce low-yield follow-up MRI

Oct 2026 · Antimicrobial Stewardship and Healthcare Epidemiology · Vol 6 · 0 citations · 10 references

Abstract

Abstract Among 37 previously healthy children diagnosed with focal intracranial infections, 40 routine surveillance MRIs obtained >7 days postintervention in the absence of clinical symptoms did not alter surgical or medical management. Symptom-driven repeat imaging may safely replace routine protocols, reducing unnecessary sedation, contrast exposure, and environmental impact.
