Abstract

Let $X$ be an algebraic K3 surface defined over a global field $K$ of characteristic $0$ or $p \geq 3$, assumed ordinary in the case where $K$ is a global function field. We provide an exact formula for the density of primes $p$ of $K$ at which the geometric Neron-Severi group of the reduction $X_p$ has a given rank in terms of the Galois representation attached to $X$. As an extension, we prove that there are infinitely many reductions of $X$ with an element of the geometric Neron-Severi group representing a fixed square class under the intersection pairing and prove results about the density of such places. In particular, we show that if $X$ corresponds to a sufficiently generic moduli point, a density zero set of places of $K$ satisfy this condition.

Density of $\mu$-ordinary Primes for K3 Surfaces

By a result of Bogomolov and Zarhin, a K3 surface $X$ over a number field $L$ has ordinary reduction at a density 1 set of primes after passing to a finite extension of $L$. In this paper, we refine this result for non-CM K3 surfaces whose transcendental Hodge structure has endomorphism field $F$ abelian over $\mathbb{...

The regular inverse Galois problem over fields avoiding a curve

Let $k_0$ be a field of characteristic $0$, and let $C/k_0$ be a smooth geometrically integral curve of positive genus with $C(k_0)=\varnothing$. We prove that the regular inverse Galois problem is solvable over every field existentially closed in the class of $k_0$-fields avoiding $C$, including the curve-excluding fi...

On the dimension conjecture for global Galois deformation rings in characteristic two

Let $K$ be a number field, and let $S$ be a finite set of primes of $K$ containing all primes above $2$ and all archimedean primes. Let $G_{K,S}$ be the Galois group of the maximal algebraic extension of $K$ unramified outside $S$. We prove two refined lower bounds for the Krull dimension of unrestricted global Galois...

Hyperelliptic curves on $K3$ surfaces

We study hyperelliptic curves on $K3$ surfaces. We show that any number of general points on a $K3$ surface of Picard rank one can be connected by a hyperelliptic curve. As a by-product we recover the Beauville--Voisin decomposition of the small diagonal, together with some new bounds on its torsion order in the integr...

Frobenius lifts and point counting for smooth curves

We describe an algorithm for computing the zeta function of a proper, smooth curve over a finite field $k$ of characteristic $p$, when the curve is given together with some auxiliary data, including a lift $C$ to the valuation ring in a finite extension of $\Q_p$. The algorithm is denominator-free if the ramification i...

Bounds for (k,c) model functions over p-adic fields

Let $F$ be a $p$-adic field, let $k,c\ge1$, and let $\rho$ be a $(k,c)$ representation of $\mathrm{GL}_{kc}(F)$: a complex representation of finite length whose wave front set has $(k^c)$ as its unique maximal orbit, and which admits a $(k,c)$ functional that is unique up to scaling. We prove that the functions in the...
