Abstract

When language models answer open-ended questions, they implicitly make decisions that shape their answers. However, the models do not show these decisions to the user, so users cannot contextualize answers: they cannot see the assumptions an answer rests on or the alternatives to it. Drawing on multiverse analysis from statistics, we introduce the conceptual multiverse, a representation in which language models express answers as the result of intermediate conceptual decisions. We build a system that generates such decisions explicitly, organizes them into a space of answers that users can see and change, and checks them against the norms of a specific domain. In a user study across three domains - philosophy, AI alignment annotation, and poetry - participants say that our system helps them see the decisions leading to an answer, explore the space of answers, and understand the decisions structuring this space.

The impact of agile practices on communication in software development

The study shows that agile practices improve both informal and formal communication, but indicates that, in larger development situations involving multiple external stakeholders, a mismatch of adequate communication mechanisms can sometimes even hinder the communication.

Flint: A visualization language for the AI era

Short chart specifications are easy to write, but often produce uninspiring results. Flint is an open-source visualization language that offers a middle path, letting AI agents create expressive charts from compact, human-editable specifications. Formally verifying agent-written full-stack web apps with PDD Kit

AI agents can generate code at a scale that’s hard for humans to review line-by-line. PDD Kit helps ensure the code is doing what the developer intended by creating formal specifications and testing against them. It converts developer intent into a Verus specification, proves AI-generated code meets it for every input, and uses tests where proofs aren't practical. Developers review intent, not every line.
