Technical water losses at a well-type water source
Abstract
Technical water losses represent a significant challenge in the management of water supply systems. In addition to losses occurring within the distribution network, technical losses may also arise at well-field water sources. This paper analyzes the main causes of technical water losses at the well-field water sources of the Srebrenik and Gračanica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The most common causes are the lack of periodic well revitalization and overpumping of wells, which lead to increased hydraulic resistance, the development of well colmation processes and a gradual reduction in well capacity, consequently decreasing water production. Therefore, determining the optimal well capacity and aligning the exploitation regime accordingly are essential for ensuring efficient and sustainable operation of well-field water sources.
