Abstract

The object of this study is religious painting as a phenomenon in contemporary Russian and Chinese cultures. The subject is the similarities and significant differences in the interpretation of images of God, deities and the sacred in general by artists from both countries, as well as the analysis of trends that emerged in this field in the early 21st century and a search for commonalities and differences. The aim is to conduct a comparative study of religious painting in China and Russia based on works created since the 2000s, with an emphasis on identifying the distinctive features of artistic and creative approaches, philosophical foundations, and methods of interpreting religious themes. The study is relevant in the context of cultural dialogue between the two countries and the growing interest in religious motifs in contemporary art. The practical significance of this work may lie in the potential use of its results for further study of intercultural dialogue in the arts, as well as in the development of recommendations for art historians and researchers.
