SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE AVIATION INDUSTRY IN THE CONTEXT OF CURRENT CRISIS CHALLENGES AND DURING THE POST-WAR RECOVERY OF UKRAINE
Abstract
The article examines the theoretical and practical foundations of sustainable development of the aviation industry under current crisis challenges and during the post-war recovery period in Ukraine. The current state of the air transport system, which has suffered critical destruction as a result of full-scale military hostilities, is analyzed, and strategic guidelines for its transformation in accordance with the environmental, economic, and social imperatives of the European Union are identified. Particular attention is paid to the Green Deal concept, integration into the Common Aviation Area (CAA), and the introduction of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). An organizational and economic mechanism for the recovery of aviation infrastructure is proposed, based on the principles of sustainable construction (“Build Back Better”) and public-private partnership. The study emphasizes the importance of aligning Ukraine's aviation sector with international sustainability standards and EU regulations to ensure a resilient and competitive industry in the future. It explores various strategies to reduce carbon emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and promote innovative technologies within the aviation ecosystem. The role of government policy, private sector involvement, and international cooperation is highlighted as crucial for effective implementation of recovery plans and long-term development goals. Additionally, the article discusses the socio-economic impacts of revitalizing the aviation industry, including job creation, regional connectivity, and economic growth, while ensuring environmental sustainability and community well-being. Challenges related to infrastructure modernization, regulatory harmonization, and financing mechanisms are also analyzed. The comprehensive approach presented serves as a framework for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and researchers interested in fostering a sustainable and resilient aviation industry in Ukraine during and beyond the post-war recovery phase.
