Abstract
ABSTRACT Zinc metal is a promising anode for aqueous zinc batteries due to its high theoretical capacity and low cost. However, its practical implementation remains limited by dendrite formation and interfacial instability. Herein, we present a geometry‐driven strategy that regulates Zn deposition through control of the hole opening ratio (HOR) in laser‐ablated three‐dimensional hole‐patterned Zn foil. Based on preferential Zn deposition at periodically arranged hole edges, HOR was introduced as a geometric parameter that dictates the spatial density of nucleation sites. Systematic variation of the HOR reveals that it governs the dispersion and size of early‐stage Zn deposits, defining the electrode‐wide nucleation pattern and subsequent growth behavior. The optimized HOR balances sparse nucleation with localized growth and dense nucleation with coalescence‐driven aggregation, enabling spatially uniform Zn deposition. As a result, the HOR‐tailored electrode achieves dendrite‐free deposition with long‐term stability in symmetric cells (3400 h at 0.5 mA cm−2) and maintains stable cycling in full cells paired with a Zn pre‐intercalated NH4V4O10 cathode (1000 cycles at 2 A g−1). By establishing HOR‐controlled nucleation density as a geometry‐based design principle, this defect‐engineered and materials‐independent approach provides a general design framework for high‐performance aqueous metal batteries.
Uncontrolled dendrite growth during zinc plating/stripping hinders the practical application of aqueous zinc metal batteries in energy storage systems. In this study, the classical diffusion‐limited aggregation (DLA) theory was employed to understand the mechanisms of zinc dendritic growth fundamentally and then to...

Rechargeable aqueous zinc‐ion batteries offer a cost‐effective and safe solution for large‐scale energy storage. However, uncontrolled Zn dendrite growth, parasitic hydrogen evolution, and poor Zn plating/stripping reversibility still limit their practical deployment. Herein, a Ga‐In liquid metal‐containing hydrogel el...

Anode‐free lithium metal batteries (AFLMBs) maximize energy density by eliminating anode host materials, but their lifetime is governed by Li deposition on the current collector (CC)—a heterogeneous nucleation and growth process. Current research mainly focuses on electrolyte or artificial interphase engineering, whe...

Controlling aqueous zinc (Zn) electrodeposition is challenging because electrolyte‐dependent Zn coordination, interfacial side reactions, nucleation kinetics, and mass transport generate competing morphological transitions. Herein, we investigate the electrolyte‐dependent Zn deposition behavior and morphological ev...
Aqueous zinc‐ion batteries are promising for large‐scale energy storage, yet their practical deployment is severely hindered by parasitic hydrogen evolution, dendritic growth, and low Zn utilization. Here, we report an ultrathin (∼5.5 nm) fluorine/oxygen co‐doped porous carbon interface layer constructed on Cu foil...

Lithium metal anodes (LMAs), with ultrahigh theoretical capacity and extremely low electrochemical potentials, are key enablers for next‐generation high‐energy‐density batteries (LMBs). However, their practical deployment remains severely impeded by nonuniform Li nucleation, dendritic growth, drastic volume fluctua...
