Abstract
We report the non-detection of stellar light associated with the dark galaxy candidate Cloud-9. Ultra-deep imaging obtained with HiPERCAM at the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) reaches surface-brightness limits of 31.4 and 31.0 mag arcsec−2 in g and r, respectively, approximately ten times deeper than previous deep imaging of the region. No stellar emission is detected within the central 1′×1′ (∼1.3 × 1.3 kpc) region of Cloud-9. Assuming an old, metal-poor stellar population, these limits imply a stellar surface mass density of no more than ∼0.01 M⊙ pc−2 and an upper limit on the total stellar mass of 1.6 × 104 M⊙. This independent constraint from integrated light complements previous limits based on resolved-star counts and strengthens the case for Cloud-9 as a candidate starless galaxy.
We report adaptive-optics Ks-band imaging of the composite Seyfert 2 and Wolf–Rayet galaxy NGC 6764 (D = 32 Mpc), obtained with LUCI/SOUL at the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT). The nucleus resolves into three compact sources with pairwise projected separations of 0.″07 – 0.″2 , corresponding to 11.0–30.9 pc. All three...

Binary active galactic nuclei (AGN) consist of two supermassive black holes (SMBHs) hosted in a single galaxy that are simultaneously accreting gas. These systems are key to understanding hierarchical galaxy evolution and represent prime targets for low-frequency gravitational wave (GW) experiments. However, binary AGN...

The central regions of galaxies pose challenges for observers due to their high density of stars, gas, and dust. The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) hosts a dense stellar bar, whereas the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) hosts a dense core. Both of these dense centres have eluded even the most sensitive large-scale wide-field...

We present results from a survey of the Hubble Ultra-Deep Field using the Wide-Field Slitless Spectroscopic (WFSS) capability of the Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) on JWST, demonstrating the capabilities of this new mode. We describe the data reduction and calibration methodology, and estimate calibration uncertainties...

We present the rationale, design, methodology, and observational facilities of a high-angular-resolution imaging survey of stars within 18~pc of the Sun. Our comprehensive sample consists of 2047 stars compiled from Gaia eDR3 and complementary catalogs. The main goal is to observe as many stars from this sample as poss...
