Abstract

This record contains the analysis scripts and derived data for the manuscript "Which timing matters? Hazard-specific drivers of tropical-cyclone landslides and floods in Hong Kong, 1986–2024", submitted to Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences. The study examines 61 tropical cyclones that passed within 200 km of Hong Kong during 1986–2024 and tests which aspects of storm timing control landslides, inland lowland flooding and coastal (sea-water) flooding. Contents:- Event-level flood coding (coastal, inland lowland and any reported flooding) with paraphrased evidence from the Hong Kong Observatory's annual "Tropical Cyclones" reports, and agreement between two coding passes.- Event × 1-km grid panel of gauge-based rainfall (95 GEO raingauges, inverse-distance interpolation), landslide counts, terrain and road density, and a rainstorm-day panel for 1984–2024.- Multi-station storm surge, maximum sea level and astronomical tide at the surge peak (HKO storm-surge database; HKO tide predictions and harmonic hindcast).- Model outputs (negative-binomial landslide models; Firth logistic flood models; robustness and leave-one-out tests).- Python scripts that reproduce all tables and figures of the manuscript and its Supplement. Third-party raw data (GEO landslide inventory and raingauge records, HKO data, IBTrACS, ERA5, UHSLC) are not redistributed; their sources are listed in README.md.

The impact of agile practices on communication in software development

The study shows that agile practices improve both informal and formal communication, but indicates that, in larger development situations involving multiple external stakeholders, a mismatch of adequate communication mechanisms can sometimes even hinder the communication.

Trajectory Balance: Improved Credit Assignment in GFlowNets

It is proved that any global minimizer of the trajectory balance objective can define a policy that samples exactly from the target distribution, and empirically demonstrate the benefits of the trajectories balance objective for GFlowNet convergence, diversity of generated samples, and robustness to long action sequenc...
