Abstract

We study the Euler-Maruyama approximation of the degenerate stochastic differential equation $dX_t = |X_t|^\alpha\,dW_t$, $0<\alpha<1/2$, $X_0 = 0$, for which uniqueness in law fails. The Euler scheme started exactly from zero is trapped by the absorbing solution, whereas a nonzero initialization $x_h \to 0$ can select a different weak solution. We identify the initialization-dependent limiting regimes. The critical spatial scale is $r_h = h^{1/[2(1-\alpha)]}$, and the relevant depth parameter is $\Theta_h = h\log(1+\log^+(r_h/|x_h|))$. If $\Theta_h \to 0$, the scheme converges to the non-sticky weak solution. If $\Theta_h \to \theta \in (0,\infty)$, it converges to the solution that stays at zero for the deterministic time $\theta/|\log\alpha|$ and then evolves as the non-sticky solution. If $\Theta_h \to \infty$, the scheme converges to the absorbing solution. The proof is based on an exact scale-invariant Euler chain, a logarithmic exit-time law of large numbers, a discrete Tanaka occupation estimate, and a compact-uniform restart argument. Every finite deterministic delay can be obtained by a suitable vanishing initialization, while oscillating depth parameters yield process-level nonconvergence. Thus a vanishing initialization can survive in the limit as a macroscopic deterministic delay and thereby act as a solution selector for the Euler-Maruyama approximation.

A Priori Estimates for Singular Fractional Stochastic Burgers Equations

We study the periodic fractional stochastic Burgers equation $(\partial_t+\Lambda^\gamma)u=\partial_x(u^2)+|\partial_x|^{1-\alpha}\xi$, where $1<\gamma\leq 2$ and $\xi$ is space-time white noise. Under the condition $\alpha>\max{(7-4\gamma)/2,(15-8\gamma)/6}$, we establish pathwise $L^1$, energy, and Besov estimates fo...

Viscosity Solutions for Singular HJB Equations: BSDE Representations and Stochastic Control

We introduce a notion of viscosity solution for Hamilton--Jacobi--Bellman (HJB) equations with distributional drift, based on paracontrolled test functions and related through a Zvonkin transformation to classical viscosity theory. The equations considered are of the form \[ \left(\partial_t+\frac12\Delta+b\cdot\nabla\...

A Parameter-Free Adaptive Reflected Gradient Method for Monotone Variational Inequalities

We analyze a one-evaluation-per-iteration method for $\mathrm{VI}(C,B)$ with monotone $L$-Lipschitz $B$: $x_{k+1}=P_C(x_k-\lambda B(u_k))$, $u_k=x_k+\theta_k(x_k-x_{k-1})+\beta_k(x_k-u_{k-1})$, $\theta_k+\beta_k=1$. For constant step and summable filter ($\sum_k\beta_k<\infty$) we prove weak convergence via a Lyapunov...

Instantaneous shrinking of supports for stochastic PDEs

We study instantaneous shrinking of supports for nonnegative solutions of the stochastic partial differential equation \[ \partial_t u=a(t,x)\,\partial_x^2 u + b(t,x)\,\partial_x u + c(t,x)\,u +\sigma(u)\,\xi(t,x), \qquad (t,x)\in(0,\infty)\times\mathbb R, \] where $\xi$ is space-time white noise, the coefficients $a$,...

Maximal Regularity and Existence for Superquadratic Parabolic Hamilton--Jacobi Equations: The Endpoint case

We establish interior maximal $L^{q_c}$-regularity for bounded strong solutions of $u_t-\Delta u+|Du|^\gamma=f$ in $\mathbb{T}^d\times(0,T)$, where $d\geq 2$, $\gamma>2$, and $q_c=(d+2)(\gamma-1)/\gamma$. The estimates are uniform for uniformly bounded families of solutions whose source terms range over a bounded, unif...

Well-posedness for time-fractional evolution equations by the Yosida approximation

We consider an initial value problem for a time-fractional evolution equation in a Hilbert space $X$: $$ \partial_t^{\alpha} (u(t)-a) = Au(t) \qquad \mbox{for $0<t<T$}, $$ where $\partial_t^{\alpha}$ denotes a fractional differential operator of Caputo type with order $0<\alpha<1,$ $u\colon (0,T) \to X,$ $a$ describes...
