Public-state associations as subjects of the construction of the Russian National-State identity
Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of the role of public-state associations as specific subjects in the process of constructing the Russian national-state identity. Using the example of the Russian Military Historical Society, «Movement of the First» and the Assembly of the Peoples of Russia, the mechanisms and directions of their activities in a number of areas of identity construction policy, such as memory policy, patriotic education, and national policy, are explored. It is established that these organizations, being participants in the process of forming Russian identity, act as a kind of intermediaries between the state and society, broadcasting official values and narratives through specialized practices and actions. The conclusion is made about the effectiveness of public-state associations as actors in the transformation of strategic state goals into the field of collective national-state self-identification.
