TL;DR

A case of UAT diagnosed by ultrasound and confirmed by cesarean section at the First Hospital of Nanchang is reported to remind sonographers to standardize image acquisition and improve awareness of UAT, thereby reducing the incidence of adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Abstract

Umbilical artery thrombosis (UAT) is a rare but severe obstetric complication that can lead to sudden adverse pregnancy outcomes, including intrauterine growth restriction and fetal demise. Prenatal diagnosis relies on ultrasound, but the condition is prone to being missed and requires differentiation from a single umbilical artery. This article reports a case of UAT diagnosed by ultrasound and confirmed by cesarean section at the First Hospital of Nanchang. Combined with a literature review, the etiology, differential diagnosis, and sonographic features of UAT are summarized to remind sonographers to standardize image acquisition and improve awareness of UAT, thereby reducing the incidence of adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Late diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy on a scar: what approach should be taken?

Pregnancy on a cesarean scar is a rare form of ectopic pregnancy that can endanger the life and health of the patient, particularly due to the risks of hemorrhage or early uterine rupture. The clinical presentation is characterized by pelvic pain and/or variable intensity metrorrhagia in patients with a history of hyst...

Management of pregnancy and delivery in a patient with multiple gestation complicated by a true uterine artery aneurysm

A true uterine artery aneurysm is a rare vascular pathology characterized by an abnormal outpouching of the vessel wall due to local wall thinning and loss of elasticity. The diagnosis of an unruptured true uterine artery aneurysm during pregnancy is challenging. The main risk of this condition lies in the potential fo...

Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) for diagnosing cesarean scar ectopic pregnancy in the emergency department

Background: Cesarean scar ectopic pregnancy (CSEP) is a rare but potentially life-threatening type of ectopic pregnancy in which implantation occurs within the myometrial defect of a prior cesarean scar. Early recognition is critical due to the risk of severe hemorrhage, uterine rupture, loss of fertility, and maternal...

Clinical Outcomes of Isolated Abnormal Umbilical Artery Doppler Findings in Normally Grown Fetuses: A Retrospective Cohort Study

Background: Umbilical artery Doppler (UAD) is widely used to assess placental function in pregnancies complicated by fetal growth restriction (FGR), but the clinical significance of an abnormal UAD in a fetus that is normally grown at the time of diagnosis is less certain. This study describes the subsequent Doppler co...

Prenatal Sonographic Diagnosis of Type II Vasa Previa Associated with a Succenturiate Placental Lobe: A Case Report

Background: Vasa previa is a rare but potentially life-threatening obstetric condition in which unprotected fetal vessels traverse the fetal membranes over or in close proximity to the internal cervical os. Prenatal diagnosis using grayscale ultrasonography and color Doppler allows identification of the aberrant fetal...
