Noise Pollution in the Urban Environment: Impact on Health and Quality of Life in Osh City
Abstract
To assess the prevalence and degree of noise pollution impact on health and quality of life among residents of Osh city. A cross-sectional survey was conducted using a structured online questionnaire. 55 residents of Osh participated in the study. The questionnaire included questions on duration and sources of noise exposure, as well as its subjective impact on health, sleep, emotional state, and family relationships. The vast majority of respondents (89 %) reported a negative impact of noise on their health. The main sources were road traffic and construction works. Statistically significant associations were found: the longer the noise exposure, the stronger its negative effect (p < 0.01). Women, young residents (under 30 years), and people living in the city center experienced more pronounced consequences. High-quality double-glazed windows significantly reduced discomfort (p = 0.008). Noise pollution in Osh is widespread and has a substantial negative impact on the population’s health and quality of life. Comprehensive measures are needed to reduce the noise burden at the city level.
