Abstract

Alkene functionalization via cyclic halonium intermediates is highly effective for stereocontrol, and a catalytic approach further expands this strategy, offering access to more advanced functionalization. Although various studies have utilized halonium species, expanding their scope to electron-deficient or π-conjugated alkenes has remained challenging. In this report, using a bromonium catalytic system, we achieved the stereoselective intermolecular 1,2-diamination of various α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds and π-extended alkenes. The direct use of hazardous Br2 was avoided by generating the active species, dibromamine-Ns (Br2NNs), in situ from stable dichloramine-Ns (Cl2NNs) and NaBr. The reaction proceeded with complete anti-selectivity, and mechanistic studies revealed a stereoselective pathway involving catalytic aziridination followed by ring opening. The resulting nosyl-protected diamines can be flexibly deprotected and derivatized, providing rapid access to useful scaffolds such as unnatural amino acids and nitrogen-containing functional molecules.

Electrophilic Iodination Reagent-Catalyzed Oxidative Annulation of Alkynoates and Nitriles to Oxazoles via Putative α,α′-Dicarbonyl Iodocarbenoids

Electrophilic halogenation reagent-promoted alkyne functionalizations are among the most essential reactions in organic synthesis but have predominantly remained restricted to 1,2-difunctionalizations. Thus, developing new reaction modes is crucial not only for accessing new structural types but also for discovering...

Nickel-Catalyzed β-Methyl Vinylation Using Allylamine as a Masked Alkenyl Electrophile

Direct activation of native C(sp2)–NH2 bonds in alkenyl amines remains a largely unmet challenge in cross-coupling chemistry owing to their high bond dissociation energies, poor leaving-group ability, and competing tautomerization pathways. Herein, we report a nickel-catalyzed tandem deaminative coupling/alkene isome...

Bifunctional ligand-enabled gold-catalyzed cycloisomerization of 2'-ethynylbiaryl-2-yl carbonyl compounds

Gold(I) vinylidenes are powerful yet typically fleeting electrophiles whose synthetic exploitation has, until now, relied largely on two strategies: 1,2-migration of a halide or silyl group from a gold-activated alkyne, or dual gold catalysis of diyne substrates. Here, we introduce a ligand-enabled catalytic entry to t...
