Risk Assessment for High-Altitude Works Based on Statistical Analysis and Score Model

Abstract

A statistical analysis of accidents associated with overhead work at industrial facilities has been conducted. Based on the frequency and structural analysis, the most common types of accidents, the distribution by the severity of consequences, the working experience of the injured employees, the availability and use of personal protective equipment, as well as the primary and secondary causes of accidents have been revealed. Using association analysis, sustainable factor combinations that confirm the total impact of causes on accident occurrence have been identified. A point-based mathematical model for professional risk assessment during overhead work has been developed; it considers technical, organizational, and human factors. The model incorporates an adjustment coefficient reflecting the impact of additional safety measures. As shown, the proposed approach enables a quantitative assessment of the risk level and the use of the assessment results to make decisions regarding the authorization for overhead work.
