Abstract

The Civil and infrastructural construction in India is largely dominated by the usage of concrete in different forms. The replacement of concrete and its products with other suitable materials is very difficult in the present scenario. Now a days Paver Blocks and its allied products such as concrete flags, cement concrete tiles, grass pavers etc. are replacing the traditional concrete floors, pavements, footpaths, roads etc. The properties of these products have been covered under various Indian Standards. Indian standards largely cover the physical and mechanical properties of these products for quality assurances and performance requirements. Since the products are finding its applications in pathways, flooring, parking areas, approach roads, etc that are primarily used for pedestrian and for vehicular movements. The frictional behaviour of these products plays a critical role in the safety of pedestrian and vehicles. The information available on the above context is very limited till date. In the present set of experiments in the laboratory, an attempt has been made to evaluate the frictional properties of different concrete products manufactured using different production techniques. Furthermore, studies have been conducted to simulate different conditions that are prevailing in our country. The present study is aimed to generate vital information on the frictional properties of paver blocks and allied products to help the customers and manufactures to select the products as per their functional requirements for the optimal use of these products.
