Abstract
Introduction. Investigating the degree to which researchers use theory in scientific literature is essential for ensuring methodological rigour, fostering the accumulation of knowledge, and advancing a discipline. This study examines the diffusion, adoption, and influence of Diane Sonnenwald’s Information Horizon model from its initial formulation to the present. Method. This study consisted of a dual methodological approach using direct citation and context citation analysis to explore documents citing the Information Horizon model. The direct citation analysis captured the publication year, research type, and thematic focus of these citing documents, while the context citation analysis of in-text citations yielded results on the frequency, citation style, location of citations within the documents, and the specific elements of the model being referenced. Analysis. The analysis was conducted on two datasets comprised of a total of 486 documents. Results. The findings indicate that the Information Horizon model has been notably incorporated into research on information behaviour, particularly through the substantial and meaningful use of its theoretical concepts and methodological approaches. Conclusion. The Information Horizon model has demonstrated sustained impact, interdisciplinary adoption, and consistent conceptual use, establishing it as one of the most functional and widely applied frameworks in information behaviour research.
The results are packaged in the Greenfield Startup Model (GSM), which explains the priority of startups to release the product as quickly as possible, and the need to shorten time-to-market, by speeding up the development through low-precision engineering activities.
