Polynomial and algebraic computation
Abstract
We compute the coefficient-map Jacobian determinant of every bidirected-tree linear compartmental model whose sole input, output and leak are at one root. The determinant is a product of explicit edge powers and squared resultants of characteristic polynomials of sibling branches. For a descendant subtree of size s, the rates away from and toward the root have exact multiplicities s-1 and s. The formula proves the catenary singular-locus conjecture of Gross, Meshkat and Shiu and the tree multiplicity conjecture credited by them to Hoch, Sweeney and Tung, and specifies all additional factors caused by branching. The proof is a polynomial gluing and leaf-elimination argument, valid also at zero rates and coincident branch spectra. These are the adjacent compartmental conjectures, not the general structural-equation covariance question extracted as OWR-11695865-007. This is an unrefereed, AI-assisted preprint; no absolute-priority or independent-certification claim is made.
This publication proposes a definition and a classification of agile software development approaches and analyses ten software development methods that can be characterized as being "agile" against the defined criterion.

The study shows that agile practices improve both informal and formal communication, but indicates that, in larger development situations involving multiple external stakeholders, a mismatch of adequate communication mechanisms can sometimes even hinder the communication.

The results indicate that software engineering work practices are chosen opportunistically, adapted and configured to provide value under the constrains imposed by the startup context.

The perception of the impact of agile methods is predominantly positive, and several challenge areas were discovered, but based on this study, agile methods are here to stay.

For decades, a fundamental question about the difficulty of computing in high-dimensional spaces has resisted proof. New research resolves this question, removing a major theoretical obstacle to understanding the efficiency of randomized algorithms used across science and computing. The Kannan–Lovász–Simonovits (KLS) conjecture was proposed in 1995. It asks whether, for a broad class of high-dimensional […] The post Solving a 31-year-old grand challenge in mathematics – the KLS conjecture appear…
