The Use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle-based Systems for Contamination Detection – Discussion Article
Abstract
This paper proposes a modern contamination reconnaissance system that integrates UAVs with remote sensing technologies to enhance the capabilities of the Polish Armed Forces. Unlike several NATO member states that already employ UAVs for chemical reconnaissance, Poland lacks similar systems, limiting its operational readiness in CBRN scenarios. Although suitable technologies exist within the Polish scientific and industrial sectors, they remain underutilized due to the absence of integration into current procedures and infrastructure. The proposed system emphasizes modular sensor payloads, real-time data transmission, and compatibility with existing command networks. It aims to improve both detection efficiency and safety by reducing the need for personnel to operate in hazardous environments. The UAV-based approach is presented as a scalable, cost-effective, and safer alternative to current practices, supporting not only national defense needs but also broader applications in civil protection and emergency response.
