Managing Excess Power Generation In A Semi-Isolated Power System Using Electrolysers
Abstract
In semi-isolated power systems, in other words, power systems, which have limited and strictly scheduled interconnection capabilities, non-dispatchable energy sources occasionally cause excess generation in the system, in case of which, it is impossible to acquire it sue to either low electricity demand or dispatchable energy sources already operating at minimum load, when they are unable to lower their generation for system balancing. Georgian power system will face a similar challenge in the near future. The power system of Georgia is semi-isolated, has limited generation flexibility and is expected to integrate significant amount of non-dispatchable energy sources (Mostly wind and solar power plants). One innovative and effective way of overcoming above-mentioned challenges is the integration of electrolysers into the transmission network.
