TL;DR
The total scale score and all three subscale scores were significantly higher among students who found the film analysis method beneficial in ethics education (P < .05); the film analysis also positively affects their personal morality and ethical decision-making abilities.
Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to determine the ethical reasoning and behavior levels of nursing students who received professional ethics education through the film analysis method. Methods: This descriptive study involved the participation of 67 nursing students. In groups of 6–7, students utilized the ethical decision-making model for film analysis. Data collection employed a descriptive form and the Nursing Effectiveness of Ethics Education Scale (NEEES) based on the watched films. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk test, the Mann–Whitney U test, and Spearman correlation analysis; Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were calculated for reliability. Results: The film analysis method proved beneficial for most students (88.1%). The mean NEEES score was 60.92 ± 14.55, and the mean subscale scores were 16.78 ± 4.33 for personal morality, 33.16 ± 8.30 for ethical reasoning, and 10.99 ± 2.88 for ethical behavior. The total scale score and all three subscale scores were significantly higher among students who found the film analysis method beneficial in ethics education (P < .05).Conclusion: Students find using film analysis to be beneficial in professional ethics education. The film analysis also positively affects their personal morality and ethical decision-making abilities.
Students who received Ahi-based education had significantly higher overall professional values scores and higher scores on the Caring and Trust factors than those in the control group, whereas no significant between-group difference was observed in the Professionalism factor.
