Abstract

The construction of telecommunication masts and towers involves high-risk activities, including working at heights, electrical hazards, and complex structural operations. Despite the rapid expansion of telecommunication infrastructure in Nigeria, safety incidents remain prevalent due to gaps in occupational health and safety culture. This study examines the influence of occupational health and safety culture on mast and tower construction safety practices. A quantitative approach was adopted, using structured questionnaires administered to construction and telecommunication professionals comprising of construction managers, engineers, architects, quantity surveyors, builders, and foremen. The study area was Abuja in Nigeria, while the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as mean item score and standard deviation. The findings reveal implementation of safety into design phase and safety risk identification were found to be the most influential factors. The study emphasizes the need for organizations to strengthen proactive safety culture practices to reduce accidents and improve workers’ well-being while contributing empirical insights for policymakers and industry stakeholders.
