The Clinical Significance of Zinc Concentration in Relation to Thyroid Hormones and Long-term Glucose Control in Diabetes
Abstract
Background: Thyroid hormones regulate many physiological process, including metabolism, heart rate, mood and bone health. Zinc is an essential micro-mineral involved in hormone production and the Insulin pathway. In this study, we shed light on the significance of serum Zinc levels for diabetes mellitus (DM) patients’ exposition fundamentally and to See the connection between the serum zinc concentration, thyroid hormones peripheries, and long-term glycaemic control. Objective: To evaluate the relationship between serum zinc concentration, thyroid hormone levels (TSH, T3, and T4), and glycemic control markers (blood glucose and HbA1c) in patients with diabetes mellitus, and to assess the potential clinical significance of zinc status in metabolic and endocrine regulation. Methods: Method Cross-sectional study Analysis of medical records (50) diabetic patients in Imam Al-Hassan (AS) Medical city. TSH, T3 and T4 thyroid function markers; Random Blood Sugar (RBS), Glycated Haemoglobin (HbA1C) parameters of glucose monitoring Semi-automatic quantitative assessment of serum zinc concentration using the Linear Chemical Zinc Kit. The relations among these biochemical variables were assessed with a Pearson correlation coefficient, and the strength and direction of those relationships was determined using statistical analyses. Results: Statistical analysis demonstrated significant clinical correlation; specifically, there was a negative correlation between serum blood sugar and zinc concentrations of the diabetic patients, which also means that poor glycemic control was associated with lowered zinc levels. Serum blood sugar levels showed a significant but weak relationship with Triiodothyronine (T3) level. The week background supports that zinc homeostasis is highly affected by thyroid prevailing circumstances and also by the extend of hyperglycemia among subjects with diabetes. Conclusion: The report also note that serum zinc ranking is a top-notch biomarker linked to thyroid function and glycaemic management in diabetic patients. Deciding a metabolic status as at-risk on zinc level might provide clinically relevant information and indicates that resolving of zinc deficiency may be focused within the panoply of management complexities diabetes with its accompanying endocrine co-morbidities.
