Abstract

Here, we report the design and synthesis of a new bicyclic compound 6, annulated with benzene and the 8-hydroxyquinoline fluorophore. The probe exhibits a moderate aggregation-induced emission (AIE) behavior upon the addition of water up to 17%. Furthermore, the probe exhibits a highly selective fluorescence turn-off response toward Fe3+ and Hg2+ ions in a DMSO/H2O (83:17, v/v) solution over a range of other competitive metal ions. The probe displayed low detection limits of 3.69 μM for Fe3+ and 6.08 μM Hg2+. Probe 6 shows a fast recognition time of ions and can monitor Fe3+ and Hg2+ ions in real time. The sensing mechanism is thoroughly investigated by time-dependent 1H NMR studies, which indicate coordination interactions between the quinoline framework and the metal ions. The probe demonstrates high sensitivity and dual-selectivity toward metal ion sensing, making it a valuable tool for monitoring the environment.

A "turn-on" Fluorescent Probe with Ions-induced ESIPT for the Detection of Cd2+ and Zn2.

Developing an Aggregation-Induced Emission Enhancement (AIEE) type probe with enhanced emission through metal ion-induced methods has been a significant challenge. In this work, we synthesized an AIEE fluorescent chemosensor P1 via a Schiff base reaction by 8-hydroxyquinoline-2-carbaldehyde and 2,4-difluorophenylhydraz...

Synthesis, spectroscopic and DFT investigation of a dual-fluorophore methylene blue-naphthalimide probe for selective Cu2+ ions sensing and HeLa cell imaging.

Cu2+ ions are essential trace elements in biological systems. Any imbalance in their level leads to serious neurodegenerative diseases like Wilson's disease, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease. In addition, Cu2+ ion pollution from the environment can cause further health problems. Therefore, developing sensit...

A multifunctional bisphenol A-based dual-fluorophore fluorescent probe for the detection of Fe3+: practical applications in water, fingerprint, and cell imaging.

BONR, a newly developed fluorescent probe, was prepared through the fusion of bisphenol A, dicyanoisophorone, and Rhodamine ethylenediamine. This probe enables the specific detection of Fe3+ ions, resulting in a synergistic enhancement of both its spectral properties and practical application. In an EtOH/HEPES (1:1, v/...

A multifunctional bishydroxycoumarin conjugate exhibiting AIE characteristics and tandem Co2+/ATP detection with logic gate operations, on-site sensing and bioimaging applications

An efficient coumarin-based fluorescent probe, HCPD, was synthesized via condensation of 7-diethylamino-4-hydroxycoumarin aldehyde with o-phenylenediamine. The structure of the probe was confirmed by FT-IR, NMR and HRMS studies. The probe, HCPD exhibited aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristics in a THF-water...

From solutions to living systems: a colorimetric and “turn-on” chemosensor for Co2+ with paper-strip and bioimaging applications

5-(4-Chlorophenoxy)-3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carbaldehyde (PYA), a pyrazole-based fluorescent chemosensor, was synthesised and studied for the selective detection of Co2+ ions. With exceptional selectivity over other metal ions that are relevant to biology and the environment, the sensor displays a clear “turn-o...

A Novel Boranil-Based Colorimetric and Fluorescence Quenching Probe for Selective Detection and Bioimaging of the Fe3+ ion

A novel, readily synthesizable boranil-based chemosensor, HSR, was structurally and spectroscopically characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, 1H, 13C, and 11B NMR spectroscopy, and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). HSR exhibited highly selective colorimetric and fluorescence response...
