Lenstar LS 900 optical biometry offers high predictive accuracy and efficient workflow in IOL power calculation in patients with age-related cataract in Iraqi patients having cataract surgery.

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the Lenstar LS 900 optical low-coherence reflectometry biometer for calculating intraocular lens (IOL) power in Iraqi patients having cataract surgery. Methods: This prospective observational study recruited 95 adults (95 eyes) with age-related cataracts between July 2024 and April 2025 where in the method, was Preoperative biometry was performed on all participants with the Lenstar LS 900, so can which measured axial length, corneal curvature, anterior chamber depth, and lens thickness. The SRK/T, Haigis, and Hoffer Q formulas were used to calculate IOL power. A single experienced surgeon carried out phacoemulsification. The main outcome was the mean absolute error (MAE) of predicted and achieved refraction at one-month follow-up. Also found in the section results were the secondary outcomes, which were calculation time, proportion of eyes within the range of ±0.50 dioptres (D) of target refraction, and patient satisfaction. Results: The value of mean MAE was 0.24 ± 0.11 D. Lenstar predictions were accurate (within ±0.50 D of target) in 92.6% (88/95) of eyes, in addition to found value of Mean IOL calculation time was 5.2 +/- 1.1 minutes. Most commonly used formula was the SRK/T formula (52.6%), also the section of Axial length was normal (22.0–24.0 mm) in 52.6% of eyes, while on the other hand, found Eighty-five-point three percent of patients were satisfied with their visual results postoperatively. There were no severe complications. Conclusion: Lenstar LS 900 optical biometry offers high predictive accuracy and efficient workflow in IOL power calculation in patients with age-related cataract.

Correlation of Preoperative Keratometry and Corneal Astigmatism on Visual Outcomes in Cataract Patients Receiving Non-Toric IOLs

Introduction: Preoperative biometry plays a pivotal role in predicting visual outcomes after cataract surgery. Corneal astigmatism can significantly influence uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA). In clinical settings where only non-toric intraocular lenses (IOLs) are available, understanding the impact of astigmatism beco...
