Abstract
Epoxy resin is well-known for its outstanding mechanical properties, durability, and flexibility in advanced construction materials. This study examines the synergistic potential of epoxy-based composites incorporating fly ash as a partial sand substitute to enhance material performance and mitigate environmental challenges. The study examines the fresh, mechanical, and durability properties of epoxy resin fly ash-based polymer mortars (ERFPM) with epoxy reinforcement in the range of 18–25 wt.%, and sand was replaced with fly ash in the range of 10–20 wt.%. The study demonstrates that increasing the sand replacement from 0% to 10–20% yields substantial improvements in both flexural and tensile strength. The experimental results indicate that the polymer mortar (PM) formulation consists of 25 wt.% epoxy resin (ER) and 20 wt.%. Fly ash (F) shows superior mechanical performance, attaining a compressive strength of 68.12 N/mm

at 28 days of curing. In contrast, moderate improvements in mechanical properties were observed in ER 20-F10 PM, ER 22-F10 PM, and ER 25-F10 PM when compared to the control specimens without fly ash. Moreover, enhanced abrasion resistance is evident in specimens with higher fly ash content, as indicated by minimal mass loss (0.030%, ER 25-F20 PM). The ERFPM also demonstrates significant chemical durability against aggressive agents, such as sodium chloride and sodium hydroxide, thereby improving its compressive strength. However, exposure to magnesium sulfate results in a 4.47% reduction in strength in ER 20-F20 PM after 90 days.
This research examines the creation of sustainable castor oil–enhanced epoxy composites reinforced with three distinct natural fiber particles. Bagasse, coir, and halfa grass fibers were processed into particles and subjected to treatment with 5 wt% NaOH to enhance interfacial adhesion. Thirteen composite specimens...

The main objective of this work is to experimentally evaluate the physical and mechanical characteristics of an epoxy/tamarind seed powder (TSP) composite by varying the TSP composition at 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% by weight. TSP is added as a novel sustainable bio-filler in epoxy, with a dual role as a micro-reinforce...

ABSTRACT The escalating demand for lightweight, high performance materials for the automotive sector has accelerated the development of hybrid composites. This study explores the mechanical and thermal behavior of epoxy based composites reinforced with a combination of flax and aramid fibers. Five hybrid configurations...
This study investigates the characteristics of polymer resin reinforced with sunflower shell particles (SSP) with the aim of exploring the mechanical properties of hybrid composites. First, prepare an epoxy sample, then reinforce the matrix with a glass fiber at a 5% weight fraction, before preparing hybrid composite s...

Concrete is the most used construction material, but its long-term performance depends on durability. Although fly ash has been used as a supplementary cementitious material, the effects of its mechanical activation on the concrete durability require further investigation. This study evaluated the influence of replacin...

The intrinsic brittleness and poor crack resistance of OPC-based materials severely limit their service durability under complex environments. In this study, a composite latex polymer was fabricated via an ambient-temperature APS/STS redox initiation system, using N,N′-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) as a cross-linking ag...
