Abstract

Addressing the problems of strong specificity of roll grinder support pads and the inability to interchange them between different equipment models, this paper takes HERKULES and MK84160 roll grinders as research objects to investigate modular design and precision machining technology for support pads]. Through interface parameter analysis, a two-layer modular structure of “universal base + dedicated upper pad” is proposed, and an adjustable transition adapter is designed to resolve hydraulic interface differences. Precision machining processes for the bottom R800 arc and inner bore R250 arc are established, with machining accuracy ensured through coordinate measuring machine inspection. Installation commissioning and grinding test results show that: the modular support pad structure is reasonable, and key dimensional machining accuracy meets design requirements; under oil supply pressure of 3.0MPa, the roll floating amount reaches 80-100μm, and after grinding, the roll roundness is ≤0.007mm and roughness Ra ≤1.3μm; the same set of support pads can be successfully installed and operate normally on both grinders, achieving interchangeability. This study provides a generalizable technical solution for the universal design of key components in large-scale specialized equipment.
