The concordant morphological and molecular evidence supports the recognition of Clematis pedunculata as a distinct species currently known only from South Korea.
Abstract
During a taxonomic revision of
Clematis
in Korea, Korean plants previously assigned to
C. fusca
var.
violacea
Maxim. were found to comprise two morphologically distinct groups. To assess the taxonomic significance of this variation, living plants and 452 herbarium specimens were examined, and maximum-likelihood phylogenetic analyses were performed based on sequences from the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS), the plastid
matK
gene, and the
atpB–rbcL
intergenic spacer. One of these groups is described here as
Clematis pedunculata
B. K. Park,
sp. nov
. The new species is distinguished from other Korean members of the
C. fusca
complex by a combination of an androdioecious sexual system, smooth to shallowly grooved stem internodes that are sparsely villous to glabrate, conspicuous peduncles 1.5–12.1 cm long, and stamens bearing short whitish hairs. In the ITS phylogeny, the three accessions of
C. pedunculata
formed a moderately supported clade distinct from the sampled Korean members of the
C. fusca
complex, although their deeper phylogenetic placement was weakly resolved. In the combined plastid phylogeny, they formed a distinct clade with moderate support, separate from all sampled Korean members of the complex. The concordant morphological and molecular evidence supports the recognition of
C. pedunculata
as a distinct species currently known only from South Korea.
Abstract A new genus and species of Clavella-like specimens parasitic on Macrourus holotrachys, previously reported as a host for Clavella adunca, clearly differ from the latter in the position and condition of the antennal sympod and rami, which are uniramous in C. adunca but biramous in the new species. Additional mo...

A new species of Lessingianthus (Asteraceae, Vernonieae) from Mato Grosso do Sul (Brazil) and northeastern Paraguay is described and illustrated. The species was identified during a taxonomic revision of the genus based on herbarium material combined with detailed morphological, micromorphological (LM and SEM), and pal...

During bryological work in the Nelliampathy hills (Western Ghats, India), we collected an epiphytic Macromitrium with unistratose leaves in which cells in the distal 1/3 of the leaf are bulging but neither tuberculate nor papillose. The specimen did not fit morphologically with any other species of the genus worldwide....

Abstract This study presents a taxonomic revision of Bunodophoron in New Caledonia. Extensive fieldwork was conducted in the region, particularly in the montane rainforests of Grande Terre. An integrative approach was employed, in which specimens underwent morphological assessment, chemical analysis via thin-layer chro...

Mallomonas is among the most diverse genera of Chrysophyceae, yet many of its lineages remain taxonomically unresolved due to limited molecular sampling. Mallomonas series Peronoides, historically limited to four species, has posed persistent taxonomic difficulties, most notably the long-standing and problematic relian...
