Public-Private Partnerships and Urban Road Infrastructure Quality in Emerging Nigerian Urban Areas: Evidence from Nasarawa State
Abstract
Urban road infrastructure is critical to the functioning, accessibility and economic integration of emerging urban areas. In Nigeria the provision continues to be constrained by inadequate funding, weak budget execution, institutional fragmentation and limited maintenance capacity. This study examines the potential of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) as a mechanism for improving the quality and sustainability of urban road infrastructure in selected urban areas of Nasarawa State, Nigeria. The study adopted a mixed-methods research design involving questionnaire surveys, keyinformant interviews, stakeholder consultations and analysis of policy and budgetary documents. The study focused on Lafia, Akwanga, Keffi and Nasarawa urban areas. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis, alongside thematic and content analysis of qualitative evidence.
