Abstract

This study compares traditional architectural surveying, based on direct measurements, with digital photogrammetric surveying applied to the façade of the Minor Basilica Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, in Apucarana-PR. The methodology involved the analysis of a manual survey and the acquisition of images using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), processed to generate an orthophoto, digital elevation models, and a point cloud. The results reveal metric discrepancies between the methods, with errors distributed along the façade and greater incidence in vertical elements, such as the tower, where a difference exceeding 4 m was observed. The analysis demonstrates that the traditional method is subject to error propagation due to the sequential nature of measurements, while photogrammetry provides greater consistency and accuracy, in addition to recording the “as-is” condition of the building. It is concluded that the digital approach represents a more efficient and reliable alternative for documenting the built environment, especially in buildings with difficult access and local relevance.
