Manual Milling Procedures For Automated Manufacturing Material Preparation
Abstract
General Background The industrial sector continuously seeks cost-efficient production strategies by refining raw resources directly rather than procuring finished goods. Specific Background Within academic laboratories, shaping preliminary aluminum components requires initial precision processing utilizing conventional machining equipment. Knowledge Gap Despite the widespread adoption of computerized technologies, the precise operational capabilities, mechanical limitations, and frequent technical challenges of conventional systems during preliminary fabrication require systematic evaluation. Aims This research investigates the application of conventional machines for producing precise components and analyzes the associated technical challenges alongside their corresponding mitigation strategies. Results Through qualitative observation and practical execution, raw blocks were successfully transformed into four precise 30mm x 45mm x 70mm components. The study identified prevalent operational disruptions, including rough surface finishes, cutter wear, excessive vibration, and cooling system failures, which can be resolved through accurate parameter configuration, adequate lubrication, and rigorous equipment calibration. Novelty The investigation provides a direct procedural framework mapping specific physical defects to targeted corrective actions within an educational laboratory environment. Implications Utilizing this conventional processing method reduces operational costs and builds foundational practical competencies, serving as a vital preparatory phase before engaging with complex computerized systems. Highlights: Utilizing conventional equipment reduces production costs while cultivating essential practical engineering skills. Adjusting rotational speed, feed rate, and cutting depth resolves rough surface textures. Applying proper lubrication and stable clamping minimizes tool wear and mechanical vibrations.
