REDUCING HARMONIC DISTORTION IN POWER SUPPLY SYSTEMS USING A SECTIONAL PASSIVE FILTER COMPENSATING DEVICE

Abstract

Currently, valve-type converters are widely used in industrial and household electrical equipment, leading to a decrease in power quality (PQ) in industrial and civil power supply systems. The generation of higher harmonic components of current and voltage leads to resonance, neutral overload in three-phase networks, increased heating of electrical equipment and cable lines, the appearance of low-frequency electromagnetic interference (EMI), erroneous measurements in automated commercial electricity metering systems, and false tripping of electrical relay protection devices. To address this problem, various methods are used to reduce the impact of harmonic distortion. One method for reducing higher harmonic components of current and voltage is the use of passive filter compensating devices (PFCD). Along with filtering higher harmonics, PFCDs reduce the need for a reactive power compensator due to the presence of capacitors.
