Oct 2026 · KnE Social Sciences · Vol 11, pp. 184-192 · 0 citations · 3 references

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the resilience of Banjar religious and cultural practices in Riau Province because the cultural traditions of the people in Indragiri Hilir were rich in meaning, embodying the local wisdom of the heritage. The analysis further used a qualitative descriptive method, which gathered data from books, journals, publication results, papers, and social media sources related to the Banjar people in Indragiri Hilir. Based on this method, the analysis applied Georg Simmel’s theory of Objective Culture to interpret the observations. Consequently, the results showed that the Banjar people were characterized by simplicity, religious devotion, and moderate values, by facilitating harmonious relationships with the broader community. The “Objective Culture” also represented an intrinsic connection to nature and spirituality, where the Banjar people showed remarkable resilience in preserving the cultural legacy of the ancestors from South Kalimantan. This consistent preservation allowed the region to serve as a cultural microcosm of Banjarmasin within Riau Province.
