Abstract
The presence of synthetic dyes such as Crystal Violet (CV) in aquatic environments presents significant environmental and public health concerns due to their toxic nature and resistance to traditional remediation techniques. In this work, a calcium oxide and graphitic carbon nitride (CaO/g-C₃N₄) composite activated under visible light was used to investigate the photocatalytic destruction of CV. The composite material was prepared through a thermal synthesis process and its optical characteristics were analyzed using UV–Vis spectroscopy. Photocatalytic performance tests showed that the CaO/g-C₃N₄ composite achieved 90.38 % degradation of CV within 180 minutes, outperforming pure g-C₃N₄, which reached only 40% degradation under identical conditions. The improved photocatalytic activity was primarily ascribed to more effective charge carrier separation and enhanced dye adsorption due to the presence of CaO. These findings demonstrate the potential of CaO/g-C₃N₄ as an eco-friendly and efficient photocatalyst for visible light-driven wastewater treatment.
Organic dye contamination poses serious environmental and health concerns due to stability and poor biodegradability of common dyes like methylene blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO). In this work, HKUST-1 was synthesized and activated through two distinct routes i.e., heat treatment (HT) and solvent exchange using dichlo...
