Multi-objective optimization of EN24 steel in magnetic field-assisted EDM with shield
Abstract
This study investigates the effect of an acrylonitrile butadiene styrene polymer shield placed on the electrode during electric discharge machining and analyses the multi-objective influence of process parameters on surface roughness of EN24 steel, material removal rate, and electrode wear rate. Taguchi method with L 18 orthogonal array is used to conduct experiments, while grey relational analysis is applied to determine the optimal electric discharge machining parameters using the acrylonitrile butadiene styrene shield. Results indicate that pulse-on time is the most significant factor affecting electrode wear rate, material removal rate, and surface roughness. Analysis of variance confirms pulse-on time as the dominant parameter influencing electric discharge machining performance.
