Assessment of the operational condition of road pavement based on defectiveness and traffic speed indicators
Abstract
Modern approaches to planning road maintenance work require taking into account the actual condition of individual sections of the road network, since the use of averaged indicators does not always ensure that the specified volumes of work correspond to the actual need. The aim of the work is to develop a methodological approach to an integrated assessment of the operational condition of a road based on indicators of road surface defects and actual traffic speed for further differentiated determination of the types and volumes of maintenance work. The work uses systematic and analytical approaches, methods of normalization and integrated assessment of indicators. The proposed approach involves dividing the highway into separate sections, determining for each of them the characteristics of the technical condition of the road surface and traffic conditions, normalizing them and taking them into account when assessing the operational condition. To combine these characteristics, an integrated assessment matrix has been developed and it is proposed to determine the total length of the sections according to the established levels of operational condition. The proposed methodological approach creates the basis for the transition from an average determination of the need for operational maintenance work to its differentiated establishment taking into account the actual operational condition of individual sections of the highway. Further testing of the methodology will make it possible to substantiate the assessment parameters and establish their compliance with the actual need for work for further determination of their volume, cost and need for financing.
