The phylogenetic analyses based on the ribosomal 18S, ITS and D2-D3 genes confirmed clear separation of A. subbotini sp.

Abstract

Aphelenchoides subbotini sp. n. was isolated and described during a survey on the east coast mangroves from West Bengal, India. The species was isolated from the necrotic and damaged roots of the blind-your-eye mangrove plant Excoecaria agallocha. The new species can be differentiated from the other known Aphelenchoides species by having a relatively shorter body length (538.9 ± 47.6 μm), weak stylet with distinct basal swelling, reproductive tract stretched approximately 0.45 times of the body length including postvulval uterine sac, vulval position at around 65-70% of the body length with unmodified vulval lips, and ventrally arcuate conical tail bearing a tetramucronate (rarely trimucronate) spine with blunt processes. Molecular characterisation was carried out based on small subunit 18S rDNA, ITS rDNA and D2-D3 expansion segment of 28S rDNA genes. The phylogenetic analyses based on the ribosomal 18S, ITS and D2-D3 genes confirmed clear separation of A. subbotini sp. n. as a new species. This is the first report of any Aphelenchoides species from a blind-your-eye mangrove plant from this locality.

Integrative characterisation of Longidorus parasabalanicus sp. nov. (Nematoda: Longidoridae) from northern Iran, with remarks on its morphological affinity to L. sabalanicus

Abstract A new needle nematode, Longidorus parasabalanicus sp. nov. (Nematoda: Longidoridae), was collected from the rhizosphere of Astragalus spp. in mountainous areas of northern Iran. The species is characterised by a medium-sized body (female 4.0–4.8 mm; male 4.3–5.1 mm), lip region anteriorly flattened and lateral...

Molecular and morphological characterization of Hemicriconemoides vietnamensis sp. n. (Nematoda: Criconematidae) associated with rose (Rosa gallica L.) in Vietnam

Abstract Hemicriconemoides spp. are sheathoid, root-ectoparasitic nematodes with complex taxonomy due to overlapping morphology and cryptic diversity. In this study, an integrative taxonomic approach combining morphology and molecular data supports the characterization of Hemicriconemoides vietnamensis sp. n. recovered...

Characterization of Aphelenchoides confusus Thorne & Malek, 1968 (Nematoda: Rhabditida: Aphelenchoididae) occurring in a marine habitat of eastern India

Morphometrics closely agree with the original description and other populations, and principal component analysis explained 91.67% of total variation and clustered the present population with previously reported populations, indicating morphometric congruence.

Description of Bursaphelenchus ponderosae n. sp. (Nematoda: Parasitaphelenchidae), a bursaless species isolated from the mountain pine beetle Dendroctonus ponderosae (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

A new species of nematode associated with the mountain pine beetle, Dendroctonus ponderosae , in British Columbia, Canada, is described. Adult beetles consistently carried juvenile dauer stages of the nematode on their exteriors, particularly under the elytra and on the hindwing. The nematodes reproduced successf...

Description of a new species of Therodamas (Crustacea: Ergasilidae) from the gills of Trachelyopterus galeatus (Auchenipteridae) from the Brazilian Amazon

Abstract Therodamas comprises copepods that parasitize marine, brackish-water and freshwater fishes, and currently includes eight valid species. In this study, a new species for this genus was described from the gills of Trachelyopterus galeatus collected in the Jari River, eastern Amazon, Brazil. Parasites were analyz...
