Perfiles y usos de la Inteligencia Artificial por Profesionales de Biblioteca y Académicos en los Servicios de Apoyo a la Investigación de una Universidad Estatal
Abstract
This research aims to determine the characteristics and perceptions of library professionals and academics at a state university regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in research support services. This study is framed within a context of digital transformation that significantly impacts higher education institutions, where AI emerges as a key tool for optimizing academic and information management processes. This descriptive study is framed within a positivist/post-positivist paradigm. The research method is quantitative with a non-experimental, cross-sectional methodological design. The sample consists of library professionals from the Arica campus (n=8) and academics from the state university (n=75). The data collection instrument was a survey. The results indicate that both library professionals and academics recognize the potential of AI to improve tasks such as data management, information retrieval, and assistance in academic writing. However, they also express concerns related to the need for specialized training, ethical considerations, and the potential automation of functions that could affect the nature of their professional roles. In conclusion, the appropriate implementation of AI-based tools in Research Support services requires not only embracing emerging technologies but also institutional strategies that address staff training, ethical use of technology, and the redefinition of professional roles. This study contributes to the understanding of the challenges and opportunities that AI presents in academia and library science, providing a foundation for future research and institutional policies in this area.
