A 71-year-old man presented with a left back mass that had enlarged over 30 years, especially during the previous 2 years, which favored an atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma after clinicopathological correlation.

Abstract

Abstract Giant lipomatous tumors of the trunk are rare and can pose diagnostic and reconstructive challenges. A 71-year-old man presented with a left back mass that had enlarged over 30 years, especially during the previous 2 years. The mass measured 56 × 54 × 28 cm clinically; computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed a predominantly fat-containing thoracodorsal lesion measuring 27.1 × 18.6 cm on axial images, with septa and solid nodules but no definite muscle invasion. The tumor was excised under general anesthesia with flap reconstruction and weighed 10 kg. Histology showed mature adipocytes of variable size with scattered atypical stromal cells and lipoblasts. MDM2 immunostaining was negative, and molecular confirmation was unavailable; the findings favored an atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma after clinicopathological correlation. Recovery was uneventful, with no recurrence at 9 months. Careful imaging, complete excision when feasible, and long-term surveillance are essential.

Giant hypervascular atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma of the cervicodorsal region: a case report

We report a case of giant hypervascular atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma (ALT/WDLPS) of the cervicodorsal region in a 62-year-old man. The mass had enlarged slowly over 17 years, with accelerated growth during the preceding 2 years accompanied by a local skin pulling sensation, but without de...

Giant Breast Lipoma: A Case Report Highlighting an 18-Year Clinical Progression

Background. Lipoma is the most common benign mesenchymal tumor of adipose tissue, yet its occurrence as a “giant” mass in the breast is rare. Giant breast lipomas are defined by a dimension exceeding 10 cm or a weight greater than 1 000 grams. These lesions pose a significant diagnostic challenge as their massive size...

CT and MRI imaging features of atypical spindle cell lipomatous tumor in the retroperitoneum: a case report

The present case provides detailed CT and multiparametric MRI findings for a small, incidentally detected lesion adjacent to major abdominal vessels that may help include atypical spindle cell lipomatous tumor in the preoperative differential diagnosis and support appropriate surgical planning.

Giant primary retroperitoneal myxofibrosarcoma mimicking myxoid liposarcoma: a diagnostic and surgical challenge

Abstract Myxofibrosarcoma (MFS) is a fibroblastic sarcoma that typically arises in the extremities of elderly patients; primary retroperitoneal involvement is exceptionally rare and often mimics myxoid liposarcoma. We report a 53-year-old man with a three-month history of progressive abdominal distension caused by a gi...

Primary Leiomyosarcoma of the Breast: A Rare Case Report

Abstract Background Primary leiomyosarcoma of the breast is an exceptionally rare mesenchymal tumor, constituting less than 1% of all breast malignancies. Its diagnosis is often delayed due to clinical and radiological similarities to more common benign or epithelial breast tumors. Case Presentation A 60-year-old woman...

Retroperitoneal Hibernoma Presenting as a Gastrointestinal Surgical Diagnostic Challenge: A Rare Benign Lipomatous Tumor and Literature Review

Background Hibernoma is an uncommon benign adipocytic neoplasm showing differentiation toward brown fat. Although it usually occurs in anatomical sites where residual brown adipose tissue persists, retroperitoneal involvement is particularly uncommon, with fewer than 60 cases reported. Case Presentation A 54‐year‐old m...
