Ciudadanía sostenible y cuidado del planeta
Abstract
The contemporary environmental crisis highlights the contradictions of an industrial development model that relies on unlimited economic growth on a planet with finite natural resources. In this context, sustainable citizenship emerges as a transformative para- digm that expands the traditional conception of citizenship by incorporating ecological duties and intergenerational responsibilities. Through a critical analysis of specialized literature drawn from environmental philosophy, political theory and critical pedagogy, this article conceptualizes this construct through four constituent dimensions: environmental education, which fosters critical subjects with ecological literacy and transformative capacity; participation, which democratizes environmental management through political, social, economic and individual practices; interdependence, which reveals the systemic connection between natural and social systems, demanding global co-responsibility and solidarity with vulnerable populations; and generational responsibility, which establishes an ethical imperative requiring present decisions to be evaluated according to their impact on future generations. It is concluded that sustainable citizenship constitutes an unavoidable ethical-political imperative to guarantee dignified living conditions on a planetary scale, articulating ecological awareness, collective mobilization and structural transformations.
