Abstract
The local form of the virial theorem provides a stringent condition for assessing whether a spatial region behaves as a mechanically closed subsystem in molecular space. While basins derived from the topology of the electron density satisfy this condition by construction, we show that ELF basins do not. The transformations leading to the ELF do not preserve the energetic scale and tensorial information required by the standard local virial relation, yielding nonzero residuals of 2G(Ωη) + V(Ωη) across all basin types and chemical environments examined. Despite this failure of local virial closure, the residual is not chemically arbitrary: across independent series of C–X bonds, it correlates strongly with the Intrinsic Bond Strength Index (IBSI) and increases systematically with formal bond order, tracking the electronic reorganization associated with stronger, shorter bonds. Furthermore, unlike the electron density, the ELF is not derived from the same variational framework associated with density-based energetic partitions. ELF basins are chemically meaningful localization patterns, but they should not be interpreted as mechanically closed energetic subsystems.
Nuclear landscape is initially explored in the framework of relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory under the spherical approximation, adopting the newly developed PCF-PK1 density functional. The functional effectively incorporates exchange terms via the Fierz transformation and explicitly includes the tensor coupling....
The topology of the electronic structure for an avoided crossing and a conical intersection (CI) is different and is characterized by the presence of the geometric phase in the electronic wavefunction in the latter. Using the linear Jahn-Teller model, we show that an avoided crossing can be created from the conical int...

Despite the exhaustive understanding gathered around non-interacting topological states of matter, there is no single method capable of systematically delivering simple, numerically efficient topological invariants that is applicable to all crystalline and non-crystalline systems alike. Here we revisit the spectral loc...

It is well-known that thermalization breaks down in presence of an extensive number of symmetries or conservation laws that are mutually compatible or commuting with each other. We ask here how an extensive number of mutually incompatible local symmetries govern eigenstate thermalization (ETH). We will investigate this...

First-principles studies of materials with strong electronic correlations introduce additional theoretical complexities and computational costs, even more so if lattice degrees of freedom also play a role. To address these challenges, we show how direct and phonon-mediated electron-electron interactions can be treated...

Large-scale electronic-structure calculations require efficient access to local observables without explicitly constructing all occupied orbitals. We develop hierarchical Fourier phase projection (HPP), which organizes Fourier probes into a reusable spatial hierarchy that progressively removes short-range aliasing whil...
