Abstract

General Background Three-phase induction motors are widely utilized in industrial applications requiring reliable directional rotation management. Specific Background Managing directional operations typically involves two alternating contactors, which necessitates precise interlocking mechanisms to prevent simultaneous activation and short circuits. Knowledge Gap Despite theoretical understanding, translating conventional wiring concepts into programmable logic frameworks remains challenging during practical field implementations. Aims This study describes the design, assembly, and functional programming of a directional panel utilizing a programmable logic controller. Results The assembled apparatus integrates a logic controller, single-phase and three-phase circuit breakers, dual contactors, and overload relays. The ladder logic assigns specific inputs for directional and stop commands, while corresponding outputs drive the contactors and standby indicators. A self-holding circuit maintains continuous operation after button release, and an interlocking mechanism successfully prevents simultaneous dual-directional activation. Novelty The research details a structured, programmable alternative to conventional manual wiring, mapping explicit ladder diagram addresses to physical panel components. Implications Transitioning to programmed logic modernizes industrial automation layouts, simplifies troubleshooting, and builds practical competencies in equipment protection and wiring execution. Highlights: The assembled panel integrates programmable logic with physical contactors and overload relays to manage rotational direction. Ladder diagram programming establishes self-holding circuits and interlocking mechanisms to prevent simultaneous dual-directional activation. Transitioning from conventional wiring to automated configurations simplifies troubleshooting and modernizes industrial equipment layouts. Keywords: Ladder Diagram, Industrial Automation, Directional Operation, Magnetic Contactor, Overload Protection
