TL;DR

The proposed motif-based coherent feed selection method yields markedly higher illicit ratios in the extracted subgraph than random and degree-based heuristics on Elliptic and the IBM-AML HI variants, while keeping the output compact.

Abstract

We study investigative subgraph extraction for Anti-Money Laundering (AML) transaction graphs using the Shortest Paths Network Search Algorithm (SPNSA), which aggregates shortest paths among a small input feed of entities. Since SPNSA is highly sensitive to the feed choice, we evaluate several graph-only feed selection strategies and propose a motif-based coherent feed selection method. Experiments on the IBM-AML benchmark (HI-Small, LI-Small, HI-Medium) and the Elliptic Bitcoin transaction graph show that the proposed strategy yields markedly higher illicit ratios in the extracted subgraph than random and degree-based heuristics on Elliptic and the IBM-AML HI variants, while keeping the output compact.

An Interpretable Approach to Money Laundering Detection in Transaction Graphs using Pass-Through Templates

This work addresses the detection of layering patterns in transaction graphs by defining pass-through templates, a class of transaction graphs whose structure is indicative of a specific layering pattern in which entities receive funds and rapidly forward them, and using Edmonds'blossom algorithm, which provably finds...

WCCS: Efficient Wedge Conductance Community Search over Large Temporal Bipartite Graphs (Full Paper)

An online priority-driven filter-and-expand framework with several effective pruning techniques and a powerful geometric slope optimization for rapid temporal wedge conductance calculation is developed and a novel temporal wedge conductance metric is proposed that explicitly balances internal density and external spars...

Faster network motif discovery by counting isomorphic subtrees

We develop a new algorithm for counting the number of subgraphs of a network isomorphic to a given query graph (#SubgraphIsomorphism), motivated by network motif search. High-degree vertices (hubs), common in real-world networks, contribute to a combinatorial explosion in the number of subgraphs, making existing motif...

E ! icient Partition-based Approaches for Diversified Top-𝐿 Subgraph Matching

The Partition-based Distance Diversity (PDD) framework is introduced, which partitions the graph and retrieves diverse matches from distant regions and two optimizations are developed: embedding-driven partition ! ltering and densest-based partition selection over a Partition Adjacency Graph.

Temporal-Directional Tree-Walk Graph Neural Network for Illicit Transaction Detection.

Illicit transactions in large-scale financial networks manifest as rare, directional temporal motifs, which are critical for accurate detection. However, existing graph-based methods often ignore temporal causality, underutilize directional motifs, or rely on ad hoc weighting, limiting minority-class recognition. This...

Empowering Users in Graph Rule Mining via Large Language Models

In the era of interconnected data, graphs have emerged as an effective abstraction for modeling complex systems in an intuitive format, especially with the rise of Property Graphs, which offer an intuitive and scalable way of navigating non-intuitive structures. In this context, graph mining techniques have been develo...
