NEGÓCIOS DIGITAIS E GLOBALIZAÇÃO NA FORMAÇÃO EM ENGENHARIA: RELATO SOBRE A IMPLEMENTAÇÃO DE UMA DISCIPLINA ORIENTADA AO DESENVOLVIMENTO DE COMPETÊNCIAS
Abstract
: The transformations associated with the digitalization of the economy, globalization, and changing labor dynamics have increased the demand for engineers capable of integrating technical knowledge with competencies required in complex organizational environments. This paper presents an experience report on the implementation of the course Digital Business and Globalization in Engineering programs, describing the motivations for its creation, its competency-based structure, the contents developed, and the pedagogical strategies adopted. The study is characterized as a qualitative and descriptive experience report based on the implementation of a mandatory first-semester course included in a new curriculum introduced in 2026 at a private Brazilian higher education institution, involving approximately 500 students distributed across 11 classes. The course was structured around active learning methodologies, case studies, applied projects, and analyses of real companies, seeking to connect Engineering education with discussions on business, innovation, leadership, globalization, and digital transformation. The findings suggest that the experience has the potential to broaden students’ understanding of organizational environments and strengthen the integration between technical knowledge and transversal competencies. However, it also highlights challenges related to curricular balance, students’ perceptions of non -technical subjects, and the need for more robust mechanisms to assess educational impacts.
