Abstract

The article deals with an adaptive approach in teaching English. It studies home reading as a tool to use an adaptive approach in teaching English, letting teachers take into account individual traits of students, their demands, speed of studying and motivation. The urgency of the issue is due to the need to personalize the educational process because of growing heterogeneity of groups and digital transformation of education. The purpose is to find a theoretical reason and share a practical way to use a model of adaptive home reading with the choice of texts according to the language level, cognitive styles and interests of students, also with a flexible system of the tasks. The results from the experimental phase indicate that integrating home reading as an intentional, guided, and reflective component of the curriculum enhances language proficiency, develops critical thinking, boosts student motivation, and fosters essential information-processing skills. The study’s materials can be utilized by educators in designing individualized English language learning pathways, thereby supporting the sustainable development of both linguistic and professional competencies.
