TL;DR

In this early multicenter experience, SSRDP using the da Vinci SP platform was feasible and achieved acceptable perioperative outcomes comparable to those of Xi-SSRDP.

Abstract

Background

Ongoing efforts in minimally invasive surgery aim to reduce access sites. This study evaluated the feasibility of the da Vinci SP platform for single-site plus one-port robotic distal pancreatectomy (SSRDP) by comparing perioperative outcomes with a previously reported Xi-based approach.

Methods

Patients who underwent SSRDP using the SP or Xi at two tertiary centres from February 2015 to September 2023 were retrospectively reviewed. Each centre exclusively used one platform.

Results

Thirty-two patients underwent SSRDP (SP, n = 20; Xi, n = 12). The SP group had higher age, body mass index, and ASA scores. Operative time was shorter in the SP group, whereas blood loss, spleen preservation, conversion, postoperative pancreatic fistula, and overall complications were comparable.

Conclusions

In this early multicenter experience, SSRDP using the SP platform was feasible and achieved acceptable perioperative outcomes comparable to those of Xi-SSRDP.

Single-port robotic transanal minimally invasive surgery using a novel access port: initial prospective consecutive case series from the UK

Transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) is used for local excision of selected benign and early malignant rectal lesions but operating within the confined pelvic space can be technically demanding. This study describes the early UK experience of single-port (SP) robotic TAMIS using a dedicated access port....

Adoption of single-port robot-assisted radical prostatectomy following multiport xi experience: lessons from a learning curve analysis

To evaluate whether surgical proficiency acquired with the multiport Xi robotic platform facilitates the early adoption of single-port (SP) robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). We retrospectively analyzed the first 100 consecutive Xi and the first 100 consecutive SP RARP procedures performed by a single surgeon...

Single-port, via a midline approach, Robotic Transaxillary Thyroidectomy (SMART-Thyroidectomy): description of the technique and evaluation of feasibility in the first case series

The Da Vinci SP system has recently been applied to remote-access robotic thyroidectomy, enabling single-port (SP) surgery with enhanced instrument articulation. We evaluated the feasibility of a novel Single-incision, via a Midline Approach, Robotic Transaxillary Thyroidectomy (SMART-T), which combines the cosmetic ad...
