Abstract

This article examines the values of social intelligence in the Qur'an through a thematic (maudhū'ī) tafsir approach to verses concerning human relations. The study is motivated by the contemporary crisis of social relations in the digital era polarization, disinformation, phubbing, and declining empathy which demands an ethical framework stronger than merely functional social skill. Using a qualitative, descriptive-analytical library research method, the study inventories verses on internal relations (family and kinship) and external relations (society, nation, and interfaith relations), traces their historical context and key semantic terms, and compares classical and contemporary exegetical readings. The findings show that Qur'anic social intelligence comprises three interrelated dimensions: cognitive (ta'âruf, tabayyun, wisdom, control of prejudice), affective (raḥmah, iḥsân, empathy, patience, forgiveness), and psychomotor (righteous deeds, ta'âwun, iṣlâḥ, communication ethics, social responsibility, justice). These dimensions move from understanding toward compassion, and from compassion toward morally grounded social action. Unlike prior studies on Qur'anic social relations, the ethical values of Sūrat al-Ḥujurât, or Qur'anic communication ethics, this article integrates modern social intelligence theory (Thorndike, Goleman, Albrecht) with verses on human relations, producing a systematic conceptual framework relevant to contemporary digital-age social challenges.
