Fast radiative transfer model for hyperspectral remote sensors in solar, IR, and MW spectral regions
Abstract
In this presentation, we will update our recent progress on a Principal Component-based Radiative Transfer Model (PCRTM). The PCRT can simulate top-of-atmosphere (TOA) radiance or reflectance spectra from 50 to 40,000 wavenumbers (200 to 0.25 micrometers) quickly and accurately. Recently we have extended the PCRTM to the MW spectral region. We will show examples of PCRTM development and application to hyperspectral sensors such as AIRS, CrIS, IASI, NAST-I, SHIS, CPF, TEMPO, EMIT, SBG, OMI, and SCIAMACHY. We will demonstrate how the PCRTM-based inversion algorithm are used to retrieve atmospheric and surface properties from hyperspectral IR sounders such as AIRS and CrIS. We will show how the PCRTM can be used for satellite and inter-satellite calibrations (e.g wavelength calibration and correction, noise reduction, spectral range extension and gap filling, corrections for observation geometry differences).
