In vitro cytotoxic and anticancer activity of different polyherbal formation on HL-60 human leukemia cells
Abstract
Polyherbal formulations are used in traditional medicine to enhance therapeutic activity by combining different medicinal plants. In this study, four polyherbal formulations (PF-1, PF-2, PF-3 and PF-4) were prepared using selected plants known for their anticancer properties. The anticancer potential of these formulations was evaluated against the human leukemia cell line HL-60 using the Sulforhodamine B (SRB) assay. The methanolic extracts were tested at different concentrations and cell growth inhibition was measured. Among all formulations, PF-2 showed the strongest cytotoxic effect and produced 71.9% growth inhibition at 10 µg/ml. The microscopic images also confirmed reduced cell viability after treatment with PF-2. The results indicate that this polyherbal formulation contains bioactive compounds with significant anticancer potential. Therefore, PF-2 may be further explored for developing plant-based therapeutic agents against leukemia. More detailed preclinical studies are required to understand its mechanism and possible biomedical applications.
