Unsteady flow characteristics of a solid rocket motor under lateral vibration overload
Abstract
This study numerically investigates the unsteady flow characteristics and particle dynamics of a solid rocket motor under transverse vibration overload. A three-dimensional two-phase flow model is established to compare the effects of lateral steady overload and coupled vibration overload. Results show that transverse vibration induces periodic pressure oscillations and significant velocity fluctuations, which increase the average pressure in the combustion chamber. Particles exhibit periodic aggregation in the transverse direction, with a greatly increased concentration near the head, thereby altering the propellant’s combustion characteristics.
